The Oman Film Society, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Hungary, organized “Omani Film Night” in Budapest to mark the accession of His Majesty Haitham bin Tarik to the throne. The event was attended by H.E. Mallah bin Mahmoud Al Balushi, Ambassador of Oman to Hungary, along with ambassadors, filmmakers, and cultural and cinema enthusiasts.
The event was held at the prestigious Urania National Film Theatre, where the Ambassador emphasized the vital role of cinema in fostering dialogue and understanding among nations, expressing pride in sharing Omani culture and heritage with the Hungarian audience and highlighting prospects for future artistic cooperation.
Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Ajmi, Chairman of the Oman Film Society, noted that such initiatives strengthen the international presence of Omani cinema and open broader horizons for creative collaboration, praising the Embassy’s support in ensuring the event’s success.
The program featured eight Omani fiction and documentary films reflecting Omani identity and culture, alongside a panel discussion addressing key challenges and opportunities for collaboration.
The discussion was moderated by Fahad Al Maimani, Director of the Local and International Cooperation Committee in Oman Film Society.
Mr. Tomas Dombovari, the event coordinator, stated that the evening represents a strong example of constructive cultural cooperation between Oman and Hungary, noting the positive audience engagement and expressing hope for continued initiatives in the future.
The evening also included a photography exhibition in collaboration with the Photography Club at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences – Muscat, as well as musical performances by oud musician Sulaiman Al Kindi, adding an artistic dimension that reflected Omani musical heritage.
This initiative forms part of the Oman Film Society’s ongoing efforts to promote Omani cinema internationally and strengthen cultural ties worldwide.
