The Jordanian “Al Anbat” newspaper and the Algerian “Al Harir” portal have published an article by young Jordanian journalist Marina Sudah highlighting the mud volcanoes in Azerbaijan.
The article mentioned that 52 mud volcanoes, located in Baku and on the Absheron Peninsula, were given the status of state nature reserves, and the “Group of Mud Volcanoes of Baku and Absheron Peninsula State Nature Reserve” was created in 2007.
“Azerbaijan features more than 220 mud volcanoes across its territory, located both on the land and in the sea. There are more than 140 underwater mud volcanoes in the Caspian Sea. Eight islands in the Baku archipelago (Khazar-Zira, Zanbil, Garasu, Gil, Sangi-Mugan, Chigmil, etc.) are of mud volcano origin,” the author emphasized.
The author also hailed the therapeutic properties of the volcanic mud.
